The year my son Lewis died, he had recently started attending a new school midway through the schoolyear. Three weeks after he started, he entered the school’s talent show, where he sang and played guitar. The song he sang was “One Call Away” which included the lyrics “I’ll be there to save the day. Superman got nothing on me, I’m only one call away.” Lewis did something really scary that day– he stood up and performed in front of the entire student body, playing a guitar he’d taught himself to play, and singing a song about what he aspired to be. This quilt square is a tribute to his bravery that day, and how much I wish he was still only one call away.
