Verne A. Wussow

Verne A. Wussow graduated from Rochester High School, Rochester, Minnesota in 1943, then spent two years in the navy during World War II. He was awarded the Purple Heart Medal for injuries suffered during the war. He died after a long and courageous battle with heart disease and diabetes. Verne retired from the Rochester City Engineering Department and is probably best known for his off-color jokes and his love of VFW youth sports, primarily baseball and hockey. As a twenty-five year hockey referee, he would say he never made a bad call. In truth many young men had a chance to play hockey because of Verne’s dedication and generosity. “It was a gift to Rochester your hockey to Verne. He was a great mentor for young boys and he’ll be very much missed”, said one of the hockey moms.

He is very much missed by his wife Donna of over 55 years; sons Alan and Ronald, Daughters, Sharon Terrel, Laurie Kreter, and Diane Wussow, and six grandchildren: Jade Kreter, Drew Terrell, Tamra (Jason) Carpenter, Matthew, Zachary, and Elizabeth Wussow.
