What is a Critical Care Donation Coordinator?
LifeSource is dedicated to saving and healing lives through organ, eye and tissue donation. Our team manages all aspects of the donation process. Donation Coordinators are critical to this process, here’s a look at what they do.
Our Critical Care Organ Donation Coordinators are responsible for overseeing the on-site facilitation of organ donation opportunities in hospitals across Minnesota, North Dakota, and South Dakota. Donation Coordinators use their communication and collaboration skills to work with hospital teams during donation cases as they evaluate and monitor patients.
Critical Care Organ Donation Coordinator’s honor the life-saving gifts of a hero. These heroes, the organ donor, and their family are compassionately cared for and supported during the end-of-life process by the team at LifeSource. As part of this care, Donation Coordinators may have opportunities to answer questions and serve as a resource for donor families.
As an extension to the hospital team, our donation experts execute:
- Strong communication, teamwork and collaboration with hospital teams;
- Education and respect to donor families, answering questions about donation and its positive impact;
- Clinical management, including evaluation, testing, monitoring of the patient;
- Collaboration with transplant professionals from across the US;
- Planning and coordination for the operating room time;
- Partnership with LifeSource team members to maximize donation opportunities; and
- With care, compassion, support and a vision of hope to donor families throughout the process.
