Register as an organ donor today
Did you know that while you’re waiting at the DMV, more than 100,000 people are waiting for a life-saving transplant, including 2,200 Minnesotans? I’m on a mission to change the statistics and save lives. Join me in the big heart club and register today!
Breaking news: I’ve been caught on camera!
Don’t be heartless
At this very moment, about 50% of Minnesotans haven’t yet registered as an organ donor. Check your ID and if you’re missing the heart, it’s easy to fix while you’re at the DMV! Check the box on your license application or join the donor registry online. One donor can save and heal more than 75 lives!
For over 50 years, the DMV has provided the opportunity for Minnesotans to register as organ donors when they get their license or ID.
Mythbusting with Bigfoot
I know a lot about myths, and some people will believe anything when it comes to donation. I’m here to set the record straight!
Anyone – yes, anyone! – can register as an organ donor. Organ donation is for the big at heart, regardless of your age. The oldest organ donor was 98! Watch this video to learn more.
Most health conditions don’t prevent donation. Medical advances now allow people with various chronic conditions like high blood pressure or diabetes, or who’ve had other illnesses like cancer or hepatitis, to donate. Don’t rule yourself out – register today! Watch this video to learn more.
One of the most extreme myths I hear is that doctors won’t save your life if they find out you’re a registered donor. Here’s the real deal: medical professionals are there to save YOUR life. Organ donation is only considered after all life-saving efforts have been exhausted. In fact, less than 1% of people actually have the opportunity to be donors. That’s because in order to be an organ donor, a person needs to pass away in a hospital while on a ventilator.
No matter the faith you practice, your religious and spiritual beliefs will be respected. In general, all major religions in the United States support organ, eye and tissue donation and consider it a generous act of caring. Watch this video to learn more.
If you decide to be an organ donor, you and your family will NOT have to pay for any medical expenses associated with the donation. Our local, non-profit organ donation agency, LifeSource, pays for all medical costs associated with organ donation. Those costs are then passed on to the recipient’s transplant center as part of the cost of their transplant.
