My mom died of kidney failure at the age of 69. For a number of reasons, a transplant wasn’t an option for her. I know what a tremendous gift it would be to me and my family to still have her with us. Being able to work to make that a possibility for other families is a tremendous honor and has helped me as I continue to grieve the loss of my mom.
In my role, I am an advocate for donation as a lifesaving decision and gift. I support grieving families as they consider the opportunity to honor their loved one’s decision to save lives through donation or assist them in making that decision on behalf of their loved one at the time of their death. I advocate for the families in the hospital setting throughout the donation process, and for the waiting recipients who will receive the gift of life.
Prior to joining LifeSource I served as Director of Pastoral Care at a large church in St. Paul. I have an interesting mix of experience throughout a long career, and much of that experience has helped prepare me for this work. For over 20 years I worked in professional communications, specializing in crisis communications, in government agencies, nonprofits, and on political campaigns.
Each day I am in awe of donor families who choose to give the gift of life to others in the face of tremendous tragedy. So often in the course of the journey of life, we are met with catastrophic events that we have no control over. In offering the opportunity for donation, we offer families a chance to meet tragedy with hope and love. To be a part of this incredible team is not a job but a sacred vocation.
