Donate Life Flag Raising Day
This simultaneous flag raising across the country provides an opportunity for all donation and transplantation partners to come together to:
- Honor deceased donors/donor families and living donors.
- Experiential way to raise awareness of activities honoring donors at hospitals.
- Inspire others to register as a donor.
Donate Life Flag Raising Day is happening on Wednesday, April 10, 2024. LifeSource will be starting the month with a flag raising live-stream across our social media channels on Monday, April 1, 2024, with plans to share other partner flag raisings throughout the month.
How to Participate
- Coordinate with your team, friends or family to host a special flag raising.
- Go “live” from your hospital or organization via video or share an image of a flag raising ceremony on April 10, 2024 (Donate Life Flag Raising Day) – or during National Donate Life Month (April). Share a pro-donation message along with your post and tag LifeSource (@LifeSourceMNDAK).
- Comment/share with LifeSource’s flag raising post on April 1 along with a message of appreciation for the gift of life.
Social Media: Video Recording Tips for Flag Raisings
- Preferred orientation: If possible, record horizontally (wide, not tall) for the best viewing experience.
- Maintain the same frame and not moving the frame up the flag pole (let the flag do the movement).
- Keep recording the flag waving in the sky for at least 30 seconds before ending the filming.
- Try to keep a steady hand hold while recording.
- A shot is more interesting, when seeing people around the subject (flag) than a shot of the flag flying solo in the sky. The money shot is a flag just being hoisted, as people are looking at it.
- If possible, please record the full flag raising experience (from the bottom of the flag pole to the top).

Have you ever driven by or seen a Donate Life flag flying at a local hospital? When a donation case occurs, a Donate Flag is often flown for 24 hours to honor the gift of the life the individual gave through organ, eye or tissue donation.
The Donate Life flag has become a national symbol of unity, remembrance and hope, while honoring those touched by donation and transplantation. Giving the gift of life is one of the most selfless legacies a person can leave behind. The concept of a flag raising is to make a unified statement about the importance of donation and represent the great need for donors and encourage people to register as a donor.
All hospitals will be eligible to receive a flag, if needed. Please reach out to your local donation liaison or email info@life-source.org to request your flag.
Others are encouraged to purchase the flag at the Donate Life store.
